About the Role: Our client is seeking a Senior Control System Engineer to lead the development and deployment of control and safety systems for our first industrial-scale green iron plant. With around 15 years of experience, the ideal candidate is a recognized leader in automation, control, and instrumentation, able to structure, deliver, and ensure the reliability, efficiency, and safety of complex industrial systems. Based in Paris, this position involves close collaboration with internal and external engineering teams, project partners, and site operations at Fos-sur-Mer. Key Responsibilities: 1. Automation & Control System Design Define and deploy automation standards ensuring homogeneity across process packages. Develop control strategies and prepare technical specifications (functional diagrams, interlocks, control narratives, etc.). Lead design, integration, and validation of PLC/DCS/SIS/ESD/SCADA systems and associated cybersecurity measures. Supervise supplier studies, software development, and testing (FAT, SAT). Oversee commissioning, start-up, and performance tuning of automation systems. Define and implement the digitalization roadmap up to Level 4. 2. Instrumentation Expertise Specify, select, and validate instrumentation devices (analyzers, control valves, actuators, sensors). Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards (IEC, ISA, ATEX). Oversee installation, calibration, and integration of field instrumentation. 3. Project Execution & Technical Leadership Lead subcontracted automation studies and ensure deliverable quality and schedule adherence. Provide technical leadership and mentorship to project teams and junior engineers. Participate in HAZID, HAZOP, SIL/LOPA reviews. Support site operations during installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting. 4. Stakeholder Management Collaborate closely with EPC partners, suppliers, and internal engineering teams. Serve as the main point of contact for vendors and technical consultants. Regularly report project progress to the Engineering Manager. Manage automation and instrumentation documentation and quality compliance. Contribute to the continuous improvement of tools, standards, and engineering methods. Profile: Education: Engineering degree (master’s or equivalent) in Automation, Electrical, Instrumentation, or related field. Experience: ~15 years of experience in control and safety systems engineering within large industrial projects (FEED, EPC, EPCM). Proven track record in design, integration, and commissioning of automation systems in continuous process industries (steel, cement, chemicals, oil & gas, etc.). Strong experience with PLC/DCS/SIS/ESD platforms and HMI development. Field experience in testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting automation systems. Strong technical leadership and ability to influence without direct authority. Excellent organization, rigor, and analytical thinking. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Team spirit and ability to coordinate multidisciplinary stakeholders. Fluent in English and French (written and spoken). Willingness to travel in France and occasionally abroad.
