Job Purpose As an R&D Innovation Project Manager specializing in breakfast cereals, you will lead cross-functional innovation projects from concept to market launch. You will play a key role in developing new cereal products, improving existing formulations, and identifying breakthrough opportunities in line with consumer trends, nutritional goals, and sustainability targets.
Key Responsibilities Project Management Lead end-to-end development of new breakfast cereals (e.g., extruded cereals, flakes, granolas, mueslis) and improve existing products. Coordinate project timelines, resources, budgets, and risk management using project management tools. Manage industrial and laboratory trials and ensure successful scale-up from pilot to full production. Establish cross-plant innovation management (for example innovation sessions) including implementation of innovation tools such as design thinking, idea competition, etc.. Innovation and Product Development Monitor cereal market trends, consumer insights, and technological advancements to identify innovation opportunities. Explore core markets and customers. Formulate recipes using modern cereal processing technologies (e.g., extrusion, toasting, coating, drying). Develop new cereal concepts with optimized taste, texture, nutritional profile, and processing performance. Update new prototypes catalogue and innovation board (dispaly of innovative products and recipes from all plants) Be a strong partner to help and support Product Specialists in case of customer demands for new product concepts. Cross-Functional Collaboration Collaborate closely with Sales and Marketing, Purchasing Food, Quality Assurance, Production. Act as the technical liaison between R&D and manufacturing sites to ensure feasibility and cost-efficiency. Present potential analyses of new products and product categories, and technical rationales to stakeholders and leadership teams. Raw Material and Process Expertise Assess and select suitable raw materials such as grains, fibers, sugars, proteins, flavors, and inclusions for breakfast cereal applications. Work with suppliers to evaluate novel raw materials and sustainable alternatives (e.g., sugar reduction, plant-based proteins, clean label).
Required Qualifications and Skills Master’s degree or equivalent in Food Science, Food Technology, Cereal Science, or a related field. Minimum 3–5 years of experience in R&D or innovation, ideally in the breakfast cereals or broader food manufacturing sector. Proven experience in managing cross-functional food innovation projects. In-depth knowledge of cereal processing technologies and product sensorial attributes. Familiarity with consumer expectations and nutritional guidelines in the breakfast segment. Strong organizational and communication skills; fluent in English and German.
